Last night about midnight I went out to check the water levels in the ponds. I suppose I was outside for about 15 minutes. As I sat down the sweat was forming on my body.
This is remarkable for one simple reason: for most of the last 20+ years the temperature has fallen to near 22C. at night. Now it seems to be staying a lot closer to the daytime high, and that’s getting higher. Which is why I was checking the water level in the ponds. It’s hotter and drier than it historically has been and we’re living through a drought.
We only have a small vegie patch, and it is set up to be watered from the ponds so we are okay so far.
Which is more than be said about the local farmers. There’s only one underground stream that fills all of the water pipes and during watering time the pressure does get noticeably low.
The ‘experts’ blame a combination of natural El Niño and the global warming we humans have created.
Not being an expert, all that I know is that it is getting hotter every year. Crops we could grow 10 years ago, not so good now.
Just on the off chance that the scientists are right perhaps we can all shrink our carbon footprint, even going from a size 10 down to a size 9 would help.
